Fusion™ Mineral Paint Stain & Finishing Oil over bare wood.

Using our Stain and Finishing Oil (SFO) over bare wood is a straightforward process:

Begin by generously applying the SFO either by pouring it onto the surface or brushing it on, ensuring even coverage on the properly prepped and sanded wood.

After allowing it to penetrate for up to 15 minutes, remove any excess with a clean rag. For added depth of color or increased sheen, consider applying a second coat after the recommended re-coat time of 9 hours.

The natural pigments in the SFO enhance the wood's grain, offering a beautiful accentuation. This product is a blend of natural oils and resins designed to penetrate deeply into the wood fibers, creating a robust and water-resistant finish.
Unlike traditional topcoats, SFO doesn't form a surface film; instead, it becomes an integral part of your wood, providing long-lasting protection and enhancing its natural beauty.

Stain & Finishing Oil over Fusion™ Mineral Paint

Stain and Finishing Oil (SFO) can be used over larger surfaces to increase protection and sheen. The more coats you apply, the greater the increase in sheen will occur.
Using over Fusion™ Mineral Paint to increase the sheen, depth of color, and durability buff on a very thin amount of the Natural (clear).
Using pigmented SFO can act as an antiquing glaze, adding age and character.

Over larger painted surfaces, the SFO needs to be applied in thin amounts and buffed on. Applying in long strokes from end to end can result in lines or streaks. For example, you should use the SFO in circular motions over tabletops and ensure the excess is removed. You are aiming for the thinnest, even application possible.

Fusion™ Mineral Paint Gel Stain & Topcoat

Our brush-on Gel Stain and Topcoat is a one-step finish. It is excellent for surfaces in rough shape, hiding imperfections with minimal prep work. Add color and protection in one step.

It is NOT a wipe-on, wipe-off product like our SFO, which is a penetrating stain with a built-in topcoat.

Apply with a natural bristle brush or a roller. It dries to the touch in approximately 4 hours and can be re-coated at that time (always test for tackiness before recoating; if it's still tacky, wait another couple of hours and reassess).

This product has a thicker gel-like consistency—each color varies. When stirred, it becomes less viscous. It has a long open time and is self-leveling.
One Coat looks like a stain. Subsequent coats become opaque, except for Patina, which will remain transparent as it contains no pigment.

This product dries to a matte finish.

Available in a 1-quart size, this is great for most medium-sized projects.

This product is ideal for all types of surfaces, including scratched, uneven, and unstable due to chipping, such as milk-painted surfaces, melamine, laminate, pre-painted, or stained wood surfaces. It’s so versatile!

Milk Paint Stain

Using the same ingredients as our Milk Paint, you simply mix with water and apply it to wood.

This is great for exterior deck chairs or furniture as it will never chip or peel. With lots of rain, slight wear will occur over time on horizontal surfaces, but vertical surfaces are hardly impacted. It is available in four colors: Pacific Redwood, Provincial Walnut, Quebec Maple, and Sherwood Brown. Many people custom-blend colors together to create a custom shade variation. Any milk paint color can be turned into a stain by following the stain mixing instructions.

After 3-5 years, you can re-mix some stain and reapply.

No sanding is required, and no preparation work is necessary.

Just mix, apply, and seal!

Add more water to your mixture to create a washed look or stain out of milk paint! See below for tips and techniques on achieving your desired finish. Whichever method you use, the finish will be unlike any other!

Step 1. Preparation
Ensure your project is free of any previous topcoats so the Milk Paint Stain can adequately absorb into the surface. This may require removing the earlier layers by sanding them away or using our nontoxic Soy Gel Paint and Urethane Stripper.

Step 2. Staining
Mixture for Stain: Mix 3 parts water to 1 part powder. Mix with a blender or stir by hand. The consistency will be very thin, like water. Apply with even strokes from end to end to achieve consistency. The stain will completely dry in approximately 15 minutes.

Step 3. Finishing
Once you are satisfied with the application of your Milk Paint Stain, you can gently sand with a 300-grit sandpaper to smooth out any raised wood grain. Once you are satisfied, you may continue with your desired topcoat. Hemp oil, tung oil, or beeswax are all excellent topcoat finishes 100% natural and food safe. The oil helps to seal and protect the surface and to saturate the Milk Paint, so it appears vibrant and not chalky. Hemp oil and beeswax are recommended for interior applications. Tung oil is recommended for the exterior. Two coats of oil is ideal, and you’re done! A varnish or urethane may also be used.
